My Wife belongs in my Kitchen – Nigeria’s President Buhari.

Following his wife’s interview with the BBC, where she is said to have criticised his Government and vowed not to support him if things continued like this up to 2019.  She said she would not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like she did before. “I will never do it again.”

Our dear President fired back saying, “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my Kitchen, my living room and the other room.” What a very sexist comment to make. Patriarchy, chauvinism and Sexism at its worst. A President should know better than to utter such comments.

The irony of it all, he made that statement in Germany, while visiting Angela Merkel,  who  by the way, is one of the most powerful women in the world. I’m pretty sure she must have cringed at that statement.

Am I surprised at that statement? Heck No!!!. That is how the average Nigerian man thinks.  Sadly the president just voiced out what a lot of Nigerian men think…. that a woman’s position is in the kitchen to cook his meals and cater to all his needs.

We live in a society where a woman’s worth is attached to her vagina, her skills in the kitchen and by her ability to keep a man.  Oh! Plus she has to be able to pray for one hour and be SUBMISSIVE, that submissive part is very important for the Nigerian man.  We are taught to make ourselves desirable so we can be found by men who would do us a favour by getting married us. The life of a Naija Woman!!!

Honestly, the Nigerian woman just suffered a very heavy blow today.

He has literally just told millions of girls out there to stop dreaming because they cannot live up to their full potential, as they would end up being confined to the walls of the kitchen, cooking and doing stuff in the “other room”.

Now I guess y’all know why the gender equality bill won’t fly in Nigeria. I am so ashamed to be Nigeria right now.

But you know what room I belong to?  The Boardroom Room baby!!!!!!!
